We do not recommend the following timber species as they are coming directly from the rain forest and are very difficult to control, they are considered non-sustainable timbers

  • Merbau
  • Bengkirai
  • New Ulin/Ironwood
  • Meranti/Balau
  • Kempas

We will still assist you with installation, finishing and maintenance, but we are not able to supply you with any of the above timbers, except reclaimed or recycled

For flooring the main difference is in the look and feel, each timber species has it’s own characteristics, grain and color.

For our flooring options such as Teak, Sonokeling and Acacia we can offer solid, engineered and FJL, except for reclaimed Ulin, which is only available as a solid flooring.

For SWB we normally recommend cross laminated as it has proven as the best option for installations in Indonesia due to it’s tropical climate. For other climate zones such as Europe and Central America solid SWB is no problem as well.

Flooring is often supplied pre-finished, which means the timber after the Tung & Groove processing is going through a finishing line using UV anti scratch coating. The main reason for this pre-finished flooring is easier for export.

Based on our experience in Indonesia we do prefer finishing on site, as often the moisture content is quite high in the concrete and also other site conditions can influence the coating, including scratches during installation or adhesive marks, etc.

Nevertheless we only advise our clients, the final decision is with them and we do offer pre-finished flooring and it is cheaper than installing unfinished flooring that we than sand down and finish on site. Normally using our high quality finishing on site will provide a much longer lasting finish and also is easier to repair the a UV pre-finished floor. Once a UV pre-finished floor is damaged we have to sand down the complete area and re-apply the coating. If we use our method we can do spot repairs.

For decking the key is durability, all our options have long term guarantees of 10 years including engineered Rubber wood, SWB (strand-woven-bamboo) outdoor grade and WPC (wood-plastic-composite). Reclaimed Ulin does not come with a guarantee, as it is traditionally the longest lasting timber species with the highest density and resistant to wood rot and termites.

Again, the main difference is in the look and feel and sometimes choices are also made for maintenance reasons or the installation requirements.
